Weekend Guitar Trio will be performing at this year’s Tallinn Music Week. On Friday, 1st of April the Estonian Jazz Union and Jazzkaar will be hosting a Jazz Showcase at the Telliskivi Creative City, featuring a number of talented artists from Estonia, Finland, Lithuania and Denmark. The event is held at the Vaba Lava building and starts at 19.00, Weekend Guitar Trio will be performing at 20.30.

It all came together one February evening in 2011 at Kings Place. Weekend Guitar Trio, having made music for 18 years and toured all over Europe, had played in London just once, years ago, with a Gregorian chant ensemble. Of the three Estonian sound-sculpting guitar players (Robert Jürjendal, Tõnis Leemets and Mart Soo), only Robert had worked with Toyah (on her This Fragile Moment project, recorded in Estonia in 2009). And at the beginning of the sound-check, WGT and Toyah met one Jan Bang, a Norwegian with 2 heavy cases full of sound equipment, right on the stage. There were a few hours left until the concert.
During the sound-check however, it was obvious that it was going to work. The WGT are used to reading off of each other after all these years of playing together, but Bang instantly clicked with them with his samples. And the resulting quicksilver soundscapes found an equally uncompromising match in Toyah’s provocative lyrics and distinctive voice, which she enhanced with looping, while Bang also transformed the final mix with live sampling. Some of the material was adapted from This Fragile Moment tracks, some of it was born right there and then. “A superb performance in two sets, improv based, most enjoyable, and well received,” as Robert Fripp later commented in his diary.
The live CD is the 8th album by WGT, celebrating their 20th birthday this year. It contains the second set of the concert, plus “Boredom Is A Killer” from the first set. The 2-track live recording was restored and mastered by Markus Reuter & Lee Fletcher (Unsung Productions).
The album will be presented in Tallinn on the 9th of May. At this concert, WGT will be joined on stage by the Estonian poet/singer/rapper/producer Jarek Kasar (https://soundcloud.com/jarekkasar).
